  • Travel: Accounts of unique destinations, cultural exploration, and experiential travel that offer new ways to see the world.

Contributions

  • Number of Entries: Each focus area will contain two contributions per topic.
  • Word Count: Each article will be limited to 750 words, ensuring content remains accessible while maintaining depth and nuance for our readers.

Editorial Policies:

  • Originality: All contributions must be original. Plagiarized works will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Authenticity: We do not encourage the use of ChatGPT or other AI writing tools, as we prioritize the human voice and originality of thought.
  • Impartiality: While we encourage thought-provoking articles, we do not support political bias or propaganda. Our goal is to foster dialogue based on facts, not on
    ideologies.

Submission Process for Prose and Poetry:

Mahanagar publishes prose writings on a wide range of themes. Most of the submission notifications will state the desired themes for an issue or writing contest/event. However, when not stated particularly the publishing team is looking for works that can be on any theme or context. All writings should be submitted in a word file satisfying the word limit set for an issue or writing event. The text should be typed in 12-point type using Calibri font and left justified. No spacing between lines and 1.0 spacing between paragraphs. In any case authors are requested to use MS Word and not any other online based writing software. Generative AI tools should be avoided and is a strict parameter for submissions. The final document should be submitted through an email at mahanagarworks@gmail.com.

Authors are encouraged to submit images that they find best describing their work or that compliments their writing with the same email stating under which paragraph or stanza they would like to see it, or in the word file as they would find it best. For all cases, images should be properly captioned, or in the email attachment, file name should be the caption.  

All submissions must include in the email a short bio-note and a photo of the author. Mention the issue number in the subject line of the email.
 
***For submissions concerning the Mahanagar novella award 2026, the subject line of the mail should be Novella 2026. There is no specific theme of the novella for 2026 Mahanagar novella award. Word limit is 10k to 15k. Mode of writing is English.

Submission Process for Photography or Artworks:

Photos or artworks should be sent at mahanagarworks@gmail.com filling out the basic details (the photographer’s name/artist’s name and date on which the photograph was taken or the artwork was created) along with a caption, or a short description which explains the context of the photograph/artwork. It is encouraged to submit a note on what makes the photograph/artwork suitable for a particular issue under a specific theme. Using generative AI for editing photos is highly discouraged.

All submissions must include in the email a short bio-note and a photo of the photographer. Mention the issue number in the subject line of the email.
